tcase is seperate and will need to be changed seperately. service manual calls for automatic transmission fluid to be used (nissan's matic D fluid), but lots of us use the same gear oil used for the manual transmission for the tcase. just in case the oil seal between the transmission and tcase leaks. then the fluids that mix are the same.

I have had a lot of good luck with these guys, rebuilt transfer case, they have a bunch of salvage yards across the country

Thanks for the reply but I'm in England and my Audi requires 75/90 synthetic in the transfer case.

 

See post below for adding fluid to the center differential, here's info on adding fluid to the auto trans:

The fill plug will look a little something like this:

If I remember correctly it is on the front of the pain, towards the bottom (silly spot).

Proper filling procedures are as follows:

Get car elevated and level.
Hook up VAG-COM to measure temp of fluid.
Start car.
Remove trans fill plug.
Pump in fluid until it runs out.
Allow car to warm to 37 degrees.
Replace plug.
Shut off engine.
Clean up.

Thanks guys, this is what I've been told; The fluid that drips from the seal where the drive shaft exits the trans is NOT the fluid in the Tiptronic box. This fluid (the leak) is 75/90 synthetic gear oil and comes from the transfer case. I'm told it only holds about 1 litre and there is no drain plug. I cant see where to fill the transfer case. This info is from an audi tech but another garage says its an ATF leak. Anyone know the truth?

 

Edit: You're correct. The manual transmission shares common fluid with the center differential/transfer case, whereas the automatic does not. The automatic transmission fluid is separate from the center differential and does indeed take 75w90 oil. There should be a drain plug in the bottom and a fill plug on the passenger side (right).

I understand now about the Transfer Case. There's really I can do except do my speeding on flat ground.
We've rented a house in Pacific Beach. It's about 20 minutes north of Ocean Shores. If the weather is bad we'll go down to Ocean Shores. There's a pizza place we love and the wife likes the casino.
I'd like to meet up with you next summer. Sounds like fun

I say screw it, it s costs the same to rebuild one or buy a functional used one.
