Audi A6 Intant MPG Issue

Hi I Need some advice I Own An Audi A6 2.4 SE Multitronic 2007 Model & sure I have a problem with the on board computer. Its the Instant Miles Per Gallon reading the one that returnes to ----- when you take your foot off the throttle or sitting at traffic lights etc.
Am I right in saying on this model car it always returnes to ----- when stopped
As Mine seems to leave the last reading it had even sometimes stupid numbers like 240 MPG

can anyone confirm that it is supposed to return to -----

2nd Picture Shows While Driving
3rd Picture Shows When Stopped

my understanding is this, if you press trip again it will go to mph, press again hrs and mins, press again and mpg (2) one is actual and one is what if??
so there are 2 mpg settings within the trip.
ive only had my car 2 days lol

Your a bit late mate this was posted 2009 its now 2011 Also I'm well answer on how the trip computer works it was not my question anyway.
The problem has been long sorted

I had came across the issue when I visited Dynatrade Automotive Group few years back. There an Audi was seeking the same issue. The car repair shop in the UAE did suggested them with few points that I remember. Clear out the extra clutter, limit idling, maintain a constant speed, check tyre pressure, do maintenance regularly. You will get to know about cars more from garages. I have been trusting them for so long time.
