Calling all DSG owners
A group of us at the UK TT Forum (UK TT Forum :: UK TTOC) have been having problems with our DSG.
One of the most common faults seems to be with the Mechatronic Control Module failing in the cars.
Symptoms of this include the car not being able to select any gears, or sticking in a particular gear.
A lucky few have had them replaced under warranty, but some have also then needed their gearboxes replaced at a later date.

I myself am currently in the process of forking out £661 towards the cost of my replacement control module, due to me finally getting Audi UK to contribute 60% towards the repair as a goodwill gesture, and my dealer doing the repair at "warranty price" (i.e. no VAT).
The normal dealer cost for parts and fitting is £1755.09
Incidentally, the cost of replacing the gearbox is approx. £5,000.
My fault occurred when doing an emergency stop from 30mph to avoid hitting two pheasants who decided to wander on to the road. The car lost all power and wouldn’t drive as it couldn’t select a gear.
If this had happened on a motorway, I could have been involved in a serious accident.
My car is an 04 plate, which is now 3 and a half years old, and has only covered 33,000 miles
According to Audi UK, my car is "old" and I should expect some electronic failures.
I paid £23,000 for my car, and have owned it for just over a year.
I don’t see why I should have to pay for what is obviously a defective electronic part that should last the life of the car.
Hundreds of TT owners have had problems with dashpods in older cars, which Audi were charging £700 to replace. A large number of the TT Forum member-base logged complaints with Watchdog, and we were successful in getting Audi to admit the parts were inadequate and to re-imburse those who had already had to pay for a new dashpod, as well as offering to replace dashpod failures free of charge in cars up to 5 years old.
We feel that there is a similar problem brewing with the DSG equipment that has been used not only in our TTs, but in a large number of cars across the VAG range.
If you have had a DSG related problem and have been made to pay for repairs, can you please log details of your problem with Watchdog on the link below.
Similarly, if you have had DSG problems which have been replaced under warranty, can you also please log details of your problem with Watchdog, letting them know that you are unhappy about the inconvenience this has caused, and are worried about the gearbox failing again in the near future.
The more people who register, the better chance we have of getting our money back and getting Audi to admit there is a problem with their DSG boxes.

I bought my 3.2 TT new in 2004. It has not been a great car but i have kept it. I have had this same problem. i even took a video myself and showed the dealer. All of the people at the dealer have said they had never heard of the problem before. I have totally lost faith in Audi their customer service is very poor!:mad: I will never buy another Audi!!
I got them to contribute 60% towards the cost of a replacement Mechatronic Control Module for my car.
It took a few days of me constantly hassling them, and reminding them of the fact that my last two cars have been TT's, and that I always get my car serviced at Audi approved workshops.
I've just had this happen to me on the motorway - I have an A3 3.2 DSG purchased from new and its now 2 months out of warranty (64K miles). Had a major service in Janaury for normal stuff but also including DSG and Quattro oil - now waiting for Audi to come back to me before I go to battle about the warranty! Any advice welcome!

Take a look at the thread I've posted on the TT Forum, which has some good advice and also other owner's experiences of this same problem.
You really need to phone Audi Customer Service and tell them you want them to contribute towards the repair costs, given that the car is only 2 months out of warranty, and you've always had it serviced by your dealer etc. etc.
Lay it on thick about your customer loyalty, and let me know how you get on.

My year old Passat Estate is in trouble with the mechatronic control unit, causing surging when moving away from a standstill. It is under warranty, but the part will take weeks to arrive.
The previous car, a 2004 Touran, also had problems, sticking in 3rd gear on three occasions. Eventually the cruise control failed as well, and the replacement unit cured all the problems
The good news is that you're covered by warranty, as it's an expensive repair otherwise.
They told me my replacement unit would take weeks to arrive too, and it arrived 5 days later (despite the dealer "forgetting" to order it after we agreed the repair).
Dear Audi Forum PLEASE HELP if you can,
i have an Audi TT 3.2 DSG cabriolet 2005.
I bought it from an independant dealership in April this year 2008.
It recently developed the fault with the Mechatonic Control Module, exactly the same fault everyone seems to be talking about.
The fault on my car is exactly the same as the video you posted on you tube.
I dropped it into the Walton Upon Thames Audi dealership. And they have ordered a new ECU for me. Thney have quoted me £2100 including labour and parts.
I am absolutely gutted.
This is my fourth Audi TT and may now need to be my last.
I will need to get a personal loan just to pay for the repair. Never mind paying the hp finance each month. And the ridiculous petrol my car obviously consumes.
The audi dealership would only allow me to have a loan car for one day. Even though when I first phoned and booked my car in they promised me a courtesy car until the repair is complete.
i complained now I have a loan audi a6 until the part is in and the repair is complete. I think because I complained, this is why they are charging me extra for the repair to take place and not the £1775 I have seen other people have paid.
Please give me some advice.
I questioned the dealer as to why the repir is so expensive. And I mentioned the fact that other people paid around £1800 for their repair. The dealer fogged me off with the fact that labour costs vary across the Audi dealers. The dealer explained, all Audi dealers charge different prices, as they are all franchises.
My car is out of warranty being on 70k mileage. However my car is only 3 years old. Do you think it is worth me complaining to Audi?
I see some people had some joy, however, I didnt purchase my car from Audi, I purchsed from an independant dealership.
Please advise me, isn't this mechatronic control module guaranteed by Audi for life?
Any advice or support will be very much appreciated.

Just had my TT gear box go too, doing 70mph on motorway , 2003 DSG 35k on the clock , low mileage car ?? cost to repair £5K!!!!! no good will from Audi customer services either , so just logged my complaint to Watchodog as well!!
I just brought a band new 2008 A3 1.8T 3-door and with only 3000km on the clock the DSG already started playing up. The problem occured from a standstill were the car would lurch forward under throttle. Audi was very helpfull and fully aknowledged the fault but said the transmission would need replacing! So in two weeks i should have it back in working order! I hope
I love Audi's as nothing can beat their cool image and amazing interior quality..i was slightly dissapointed at the DSG's fault but i woud not switch to another brand.....yet
