Angry Passenger door locked

Hi...hoping that someone might have a suggestion. My 96 Cabriolet's fuel gauge would not register. Took it to the garage and was informed that there was a 'broken' wire to the fuel tank and that it would require removing seats, dash etc. to find and repair. They stated that it would cause no problems with the operation of the vehicle and just the inconvienience to me of watching my mileage. I agreed. Then I got a call from the garage stating that the passenger door would not unlock. I told them that I thought they most likey put the system into anti-theft when they were playing around with the wiring and that it would probably need reset and the manual was in the glove box. They called back and said they still could not get it opened and want to take it to a body shop thinking that something was 'loose' inside the door that had broken away and is jamming it. I really do not want my door torn apart. Any suggestions for this dilemma? Thank you.

I know the locks are controlled by vacuum but you should be able to unlock it from inside by pulling the door handle twice. However, something could have come undone in the latch mechanism but not likely. I have never heard of the security system keeping it from unlocking after it has been disarmed.

It's hard to say, hopefully someone else can chime in on this.

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure that they have been successful in disarming the system, but will check on that. Also, I did not know that pulling the door handle 2 x's from the inside might unlock it, but will ask them to try that. I do not believe that anything has come loose and jammed the mechanism....it has always been solid. I love my car and sure hope they get this figured out. Thank you again.

It can be fixed, just a matter of time and money.

Good luck.
