So I bought a 2002 a4 from my son who lost his job and could not make the payments. I like the car and do not see or feel any issues with the car when driving it, but I thought I would bring it to a Audi mechanic that was highly recommended, just to have it checked out. To my surprise he came up with a list of things totaling approx. $6000.00. Please tell me if this guy is out of his mind or is this even close to the repair costs.
$1700.00 for timing belt, water pump, and gasket replacement. I see the parts online for $400.00 to $60.00 for kits.
$1650.00 for replacing the turbo.
$1280.00 for relpacing the steering column seal.
There are other things he added that were minor repairs.
of course none of these items need to be done right away, but he says they are starting to go and will need repair .
Please give me your thoughts.:rolleyes::eek:

You need to get estimates from other shops that work on euro cars. I have estimates from two reliable repair shops that work on euro cars and the estimates for timing belt have been around $700 for timing belt, water pump, gaskets. I would also guess the turbo bill will be much less (if it evens needs to be replaced)

I had my timing belt done at Audi only because warranty was paying for the water pump so it worked out that we did it before scheduled and saved a few bucks.

But, they said it would have been around $1700-1800 if I would have just done it at at the 75,000 mi service.
