I recently got a warning thing up in my dash, and I assumed it was the windsheild washer level, so i filled it up, and the warning is still there. (I dont have a owners manual) It looks like a box with an animation of something liquid squirting up.

ROlf: it kinda looks like this:

I wiggled every wire around the thing, still nothing. Do you know exactly where the sensor is for a 96 audi a6 2.8?

If it's the same as my uk spec 97 A6 TDI C4 then the washer pump has a float switch built into it and it can stick over time with scale dirt etc.

You can either take the pump out and try to clean it up or a hose with some presure in the washer bottle aimed at the pump may clear it.

Advise not to dissasemble the pump as they usually leak when reassembled...
