Your car will respond quite nicely to a computer upgrade...

We did it on a car last friday(not that particular one)...

Basically it just increases the boost and adjusts the fuel ratios accordingly...
We dynoed a new A4 1.8t before the chip and it only ran 9psi boost dropping down to 5psi... The chip will increase the boost and keep it smoother through rev range..i think somewhere closer to 15psi..(am i right??)

So yeah, the chip is a good start...Or a full exhaust system...

i was under the assumption that the stock k03 turbo in the 1.8t was putting out closer to 7psi. Although it is probably possible for the k03 to put out 15psi, its highly unrecomended. with that kind of output, with no other engine work, the cylinder heads would be under so much added pressure (not to mention the turbo) anyway, if you were going through all the work of reprograming the entire computer system, you might aswell upgrate to a bigger turbo. the k04 would work, but then you wont be supporting much more psi, it'll just be more reliable. if you're really looking into changing the turbo, look into a T04 turbo which will put out up to 19psi with no problem. keep in mind that you cant just change the turbo with no other engine work... B)

Im just quoting the actual figure we got off a 2004 audi a4 1.8t quattro...
It ranged from 9psi dropping off to 5psi....we were a little dissapointed..
I'll post the dyno chart when i scan it, it's interesting, and could be usefull to the forum...
The 15psi figure i quoted could definately be optomistic...It was just off the top of my head...(and what i was told by somebody who probably just made it up themselves)
You have to keep in mind that the audi engines are pretty tough...There has been quite alot of experimenting with them over the years, and people have reportedly run 15psi off the stock turbo and engine very successfully...
I do however agree with you and would prefer to upgrade to the k04 for instance, and not have to worry about stressing the turbo out too much...And also open up more opportunities for upgrades in the past...
When you start talking about 19psi, i defiantely agree it would be a wise step to strengthen the engine internals also...It wont last to long otherwise...
But the stock engines are defiantely capable of handling incresed boost...
I'll find out some more info from our developments...
I'll have some proper facts soon that i think alot of the members here could benefit from.
