Hi all,

I have a 2004 A4 1.8T Avant with a Tiptronic transmission. To my misfortune, Audi discontinued the steering wheel mounted controls (plus and minus buttons).

Has anybody installed a wheel from a previous model to get steering wheel mounted controls? Is there even any whiring in the column to do this? Better yet, I would love to buy the wheel from an S4 or TT 3.2 with paddles and wire it to control my Tiptronic.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

audi insists it cannot be done.. there is a wire harness that goes from the steering wheel to several parts of the car (horn, stereo, etc) and without this control module linking the steering wheel to the TCU (trans control unit) it will not work.. assuming that you did get the steering wheel with a link to the TCU, the TCU would also then need to be reprogramed. the OEM TCU would not have the software supporting the steering wheel shifts.
