The board asked and I will try to deliver.
I am Rob-D and I recently picked up an 85 5000S that I am going to attempt to restore.
My background is/was in mechanics including teaching vocational auto mechanics to high school students for 13 years.
I have also spent many years playing with Street rods and custom cars and still have a couple in the stable.
this is my first attempt at restoring a car back to pretty much the way it came out of the box originally and outside of a couple of discreet upgrades that is what I plan to do.
The car is an 85 5000S sedan with most of the bells and whistles. Little or no rust and only a couple of dings to deal with. The biggest part of the project will be bring the front seats and door panels back up to par and then finishing to body work and getting rid of the ugly paint job that is on it.
I showed up here in search for links to reliable parts suppliers and a bit of help and encouragement at times. Rob-D

UPDATE, I finally picked up a new (to me) Ignition switch and lock and changed it out and my wife has put about 4k enjoyable miles on the car since then. Fuel milage is better than expected and knock on wood it runs better with each tank of fuel.
The outside door handles and trunk lock were changed out also at the same time.
Now to attack the power window system and the warning light system.
