suspension problems

 I've just been told by the local Audi dealer that the rubber bushes on 3 of the 4 control arms on my 1995 A4 are damaged and I will need to replace the entire suspension arms. Admittedly, the car is now 9 years old, but I thought these components were built to last for ever. Has anyone else struck this problem?

YES! Similar age/model & problem:

My 1996 A4 needs replacement upper suspension arm (MOT failure). Last week it went to the Audi garage under the suspension arm recall but I later learnt they are only replacing lower arms

Yet to discover the cost of new arms!
I cannot remember where on the web I saw it, but CPP(make suspension parts for vw and audi) will place bearings in place of bushings on the suspension arms using the existing arms. Don't remember how much it will cost though. Your ride won't as smooth because the bearings don't give like soft rubber bushings. Or you can get new kits that are OE style for $450-500.

Check it out CPP Homepage for all the cool stuff.

my a4 has split rubbers on the balljoints, there is a recall on these items at the moment but without the service book audi will not honour the warranty on them, all in all its a cop out on there behalf but its not that expensive to replace the arms as long as you dont buy genuine parts.rubber does perish over the years so yes the do wear out
I've just encountered the same problem on my Audi, and despite having full service history stamped, they are telling me my vehicle wasn't issued a recall!!

Can't understand if this seems to be a problem on all A4's, Passat's etc then why all models aren't included? they said that the specific part number was deifferent on the V6, however mine has still failed! IIs this because Audi are waiting for a similar catostrophic failure on this part number before issuing a recall?
I had a question.. I have an Audi A4 2.8 and everytime I make a turn or theres a bumpy road I hear a sqeaking noise on the front drivers side.. It's really annoying at this point.. I thought it was the Tie Rod cuz I needed to replace it anyway but it still squeaks.. I asked my mechanic and he tells me that it could be the bushings.. So.. to make a long story short, I go online to find out that there are diff kinds.. Example: Link Bushing, Control Arm Bushing, Shock Bushing, and Sway Bar Bushing.. Now would I have to get all these parts? Kinda Lost.. I honestly dont know much about Suspension so if you could help me out I would Highly appreciate it.. Thx. :wink2:
Sounds like control arm bushing to me. Had both front replaced at about $400(Cdn) labour included. (that $400 each).
Hope this helps.
Thx.. I appreciate it. I also thought it could be the control arm bushings..I've been doing some research.
Thx Again.
