Hi this is my first post, i have just bought a audi 80 sport which is in very good condition for what i paid, when i go over a speed hump or dip in the road at speed the nearside front suspension makes a loud clonk, i suspest the strut or anti roll bar but was wondering if any one had come across this before and could tell me if i'm right and how much it would cost to put right.

Cheers

As "thedrill" has said, very likely the top strut bearing. These are a high failure item. This is basically a "puck" of rubber with a ball bearing imbedded in it to support the top of the suspension inside the strut tower. The shock absorber shaft passes thru the bearing to allow rotation of the strut. There are several different grades, black, green and blue, the latter being the strongest. There is also a spherical bearing replacement now available in the UK.These will last 10 times longer than the OEM units, but of course are more expensive.
Possibly also the "A" arm (wishbone) bushes have failed. These need carefully pressing out and either OEM or polyurathane replacements fitted.
