i just recently bought my A4.
It's a 2001 A4 1.8t w/ the sport package ( including the 17" rims & a 225/45/17 Michilin Pilot Sport tire set ).
And i live in Philadelphia, which although its not snow-covered for 3 months straight in the winter, when it snows it can get pretty bad. You don't have to live in the North-east to know what our weather can be like.
So now you see that my current summer tire ( the Pilot sports ) are just not sufficient for my area, lets face it, they aren't designed for ANY snow, much less a foot & a-half of it. And rather than compromising my summer performance by getting all-seasons, i've decided to get a set of snow tires and change them out twice a year.
Snow traction IS VERY important to me when choosing this tire , but it is in no way the ONLY factor i would like to consider. Much of my winter driving will be done on dry roads and things such as road noise and handling should also be taken into account.
I've heard wonderfull things about the Blizzak's (WS-50's & LM-22's ) snow traction but also heard that they're incredibly noisey on dry roads. The Michilin Pilot Alpin's also have my eye, i've heard that they're much quieter, only sacrificing a little traction. But i'm not set on ANY tire yet, thats why i'm here.
So, ANY feedback on your previous experiences with winter tires on these 17" rims would be appriciated. if you could please make a point to touch the traction, handling and noise factors of your tires, they seem to be the 3 most important factors in my decision making process so far.
And THANK YOU fellow Audi drivers, may the road ahead be ever-so-windy as to make you appriciate the fine piece of German machinery beneath your feet and in your grasp.
DOWNSHIFT, ACCELERATE, SMILE.
