Since I purchased my S3 I have daunted servicing time! It looming ever closer and due to my local Audi dealer being extortionate, I dont wish to take it there. I dont find them that competent either (had a few teething issues during warranty).

So;

With regards the service intervals worked out by my on board computer, how does this get reset if another garage do the servicing? Can they also detect faults using diagnostic computers or is it only Audi units that detect the faults?

I just dont agree with Audi service prices for what is done. I know I bought one knowing this but its the principal when you could do it yourself if there was less electronics to worry about!

It all depends on the sophistication of the shop you go to. Some will clear the codes and check for other codes if they have the proper diagnostic tools and some want.
You should ask what ever shop you go to if they have the proper tools and diagnosti equipment before you let them work on your car.
Some shops will actually send the car back to a Audi dealerships to get the codes cleared. Whether they charge for that at your locale shop or not I don't know.

Just a side note, are you sticking with the manufactures scheduled services?

Hope this helps?

Personally, I wouldn’t take my cars to shops that didn’t have the right diagnostic equipment. If a shop didn’t have the equipment to pull fault codes then what good is taking your car there? Kind of defeats the purpose of the vag-com system
