S4 Won't Start!! Can Anyone Help??!!

Hi

I have an 2003 S4 Avant and have been experiencing intermittent start up problems since last winter. Basically, when you turn the key there is no turn over or anything but all the dash lights etc read as ok. Then after maybe 10 sometimes 20 minutes of trying the ignition the engine suddenly kicks in as normal! Once the car has started it will be fine all day (even if left for 8 hours) until the next morning. I have seen similar threads but nobody seems to have a definitive answer. Like I say this is an intermittent problem so sometimes it is fine, but I have now resorted to trying the car an hour before I go to work, just so it starts on time!

Can anyone help!!

Thanks
Neil

Many thanks for the link but I am still confused as there doesn't appear to be a resounding conclusion to this. I'm not sure what difference dipping the clutch makes either as mine eventually starts when in neutral? The solenoid could be the answer as I have now been experiencing the problem on warmer days too even though the car is garaged every night!
Any other ideas at all?

Thanks again

Neil

Hi Neil I have 2007 s4 had a similar experience but would crank and not fire turned out the plenum under wipers was cracked leaking water on cable connections causing intermittent problems

That's crazy! It's funny how something so minor can affect the whole system of the car. hopefully, you fixed the issue and the car is working fine now.
