I am in the final decision process for buying an '01 S4, 6 speed. These cars were rated 250HP and 258 lb/ft of torque from the factory. I have driven in the past couple of months: Mercedes E55, 349 HP, 391 torque; C43, 302 HP and torque; 400E, 275HP, 295 torque (my current car.); Jaguar XJR, 370 HP and torque; Audi A6 2.7T, 250HP, 258 torque.

Seat of the pants says the S4 is the fastest of them all. I realize it is a bit smaller and lighter than a couple of the other cars, but it also has AWD. In a drag race, I think the E55 might just have an edge over the S4, but it is not as responsive overall.

Did Audi low ball the HP numbers on the S4 for some reason? I can't believe it is only 250HP when stacked up against these other much stronger cars. (On paper.)

Thanks - Mike in Denver
