Hi, I did the same as you bought a key fob off ebay, then found this site http:/www.audittcca.com/faq/1045086641 that gives details on how to program the fob yourself,I tried it but it didnt work on my key, apparently there is a number on the key where the battery goes and it says which car the key fob is suitable for (I did not know this when buying the fob) I spent £40 at the dealers trying to get the key reprogrammed but it was no use, so the cost of a new mainkey and transmitter was £129.44 inc. VAT Hope yours works
Hi, I have been to the link above and found the information useless to me (Audi A4 1.8T 1997)
I have however found a way to properly programme a remote locking to synchronize with my car. see if it works for you.

First, roll drivers side window down(This will help for the following process.)

Insert spare key into ignition and switch on.
Manually lock the car door with your remote central locking key(the one you want to programme)
Press lock on the key. (The car should beep)
Now manually unlock the car door
Press unlock on the fob(Car should beep to confirm action)

now, through the open window remove the ignition key.

your key should now be programmed.

Let me know if you find this usefull.

Thanks,
Rocker55

Reprogramming Keyfob

I accidentally washed my key fob yesterday and now it wouldn't work the remote functions. The lite still worked on the key fob, so I knew the battery was good.

I took the advice of Rocker55; however, I didn't have a second key because of the way the car was purchased.

Here is what I did.

First, roll drivers side window down(This will help for the following process.)

Manually lock the car using the keyhole in the drivers side door. (use the key you want to program)
Pull the key out of the door and, through the window, insert in the ignition switch and turn on.
I pressed the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob.
Switch the ignition off and remove the key from the ignition.
Manually unlock the car using the keyhole in the drivers side door.

That worked for me.

I have a 2006 A4 and used this process to fix unresponsive fobs. It worked great.
