Need to replace the Symphony (CD no longer functions) audio system in my 2000 A6. I can get a Symphony II for the Symphony price. Is the Symphony II compatible with the wiring/cable harness on the 2000 A6?

If compatible, any gotchas on doing the install...

thanks.

Me too!! I'm about to embark on this on my 2000 A4 1.8T Avant. Any tips would be much appreciated.

In both cases you will have problems, the symphony II is can bus and the symphony is not. Your car clusters need to be can enabled to operate a symphony II. You can check you cluster for the presence of the correct wiring. Remove the cluster and check to see if it has 3 connectors, grey, green & blue, if so then it has canbus for infotainment and you can connect up your symphony II to it. But some rewiring will be required at the symphony end and at the cluster to pick up the canbus wires.

I know this thread is very old, but as I found it through google I thought others might end up here as well.

Through the years the upgrade from an Symphony to an Symphony II (non-can/can) has become easy. All you need is an adapter (CAN Bus Simulator) which you can buy cheap at ebay. There are several firms who offer one, just search for symphony + can bus. It's also available for all the other Audi Radios such as Chorus or Concert.

I personally bought this from Kunset/KFZ-Kabelbaum.de - they ship internationally and they've got the neat feature that the Light-dimming does work.

I Hope this helps someone!
