I am close to choosing a new car and I'm leaning toward the 2005 A6. The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger on the deal is that I am very busy and don't have time for trips back to the dealer for minor repairs and glitches. I had this stuff with my brand new Saab 9-5 in 1999, but never with any Acura, Honda or Toyota. Geographically the dealership, my house and my office are a big triangle, so returning there is not what I want to be doing more than once a year. Can anyone who owns a 2005 A6 give me info on any issues they've had and how long they've had the car. I 'd also like to hear from owners who have had no problems at all. Thanks.

I've owned 2 A6's. Recently traded in my '00 2.7T for a '05 4.2. I was very happy with the 2.7T, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased the 4.2. While I've only had the new one about a month, I am thrilled so far with it.

On the flip side, I have heard others ('02/03?) with contrary stories, but I think you may run that risk with any manufacturer.

Good luck.

A6 2005 (and later) Reliability??!

Hello World! :)

i´m going to switch to the Audi community and i short listed it down to a 2006 A6 Avant 2.7 TDI with some extras.

This is serious money for me, so i need to make sure, i dont have to spend much more money on this car than the car, standard maintenance and fuel...
at least kind of ;-) i know modern cars are no "ever lasting rocket sience things anymore". but i guess you get my point. i need to be mobile with this car, and i´m not able to do much on my own.

I did "a hell of a lot research" the last three days, and have not found much! it´s now 2009, so the car is on the streets since four year, so i assume, there must be some experience and opinions...

I would really appreciate your calls a lot, just to get an idea, of what i´m facing

Thanks a lot and kindest. marley

thanks a lot. i was just wondering about some expereince with the engine too.

the 2.5 TDI from the last model is/was discussed quite a lot... (e.g. less probs after 06/2003) etc, so i though there might be something about the 2.7 TDI too!

anyway, thanks for your reply!!!

Audi A6 is 1rst the most reliable car according to research, on each 1000 Audi's from 2005 only 4.7 went back to dealer with some major problems, on second place is Mercedes class S, then BMW, then Volvo S80 and on the end Opel/Vaxhall Signum. I have Audi A6 and I'm doing really lots of miles and it is just fine. Audi A6/S6 is leading in own class from more than 5 years as most reliable car. Most of this research come from German but trust me the way how this people drive ..(no speed limits in highways in German) I was driving once behind 2 Audi's and 1 BMW on the fast lane they just raping this cars ...120 miles/h and not few miles but very long distances. Go for Audi A6 and go for 2.0 TDI - very economical and if you need more power re map safely up to 180BHP (cost about £300) and this is the best option I would say.
