Guys

i have fitted a tow-bar to my 2008 Q7 with the audi J345 trailer controller and am now looking at updating the ecu via vagcom .

In the westfailia manual is speaks about matching the vehicle code to the following control units.

01 engine electronics
03 brake electronics
13 Distance control
19 Diagostic interface for data bus
34 Level control
3C track switching
76 park distance control
6C reversing camera

Has anybody done this before or have the correct long coding for the above modules etc

What does matching the vehicle code mean ???

Each long code will vary on equipment but you need to use the long code helper to add the trailer function so they know its fitted.

Abs needs to know so it can adjust esp for the extra load and air suspension needs to know for lowering ride height, distance control needs to know so the parking control switches off at the rear when your coupled up and again thats the same for reverse camera and gateway so you can add your new trailer control unit to the can network installation list

So firstly go to address 19 and select coding

now add trailer control by scrolling through the list until you see it and check the box then close it

now go to address 01 and add the trailer function to the long code via the long code helper, check the byte and save then again come out and go to the next control unit.

after correcting all the controllers relevant to your vehicle select can gateway scan and clear all the fault codes

then turn the ignition off /on and connect the trailer/caravan and check the electrics

disconnect the trailer

now rescan and check for faults

no options in mmi unless you have retro fitted the electric coupling but the dash dis display will show a towing picture when coupled up from memory.
Not fitted one for some time

Had a look/go last night, but some modules didnt have the longcoding..
See attachments.. so unsure what to do with them .. ?????

But

19 Can -bus was as you suggested.. Byte 0 bit 1

6c backup camera i changed to 1031001 and after re-scan ended up with

Address 6C: Back-up Cam. Labels: 4L0-910-441.lbl
Part No SW: 4L0 910 441 A HW: 4L0 907 441 A
Component: J772__Rearview 0050
Revision: --H12--- Serial number: 525PA8-J7141NA
Coding: 1031001
Shop #: WSC 31414 790 00001
VCID: 244C0ACC9EB3

1 Fault Found:
03006 - Back-up Camera System not calibrated
000 - -
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01100000
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 2
Time Indication: 0

Freeze Frame:
Invalid

Invalid

76 Parking assist i changed to 0231046 which seemed fine

69 Trailer was not sure what to put in this one.. Byte 1
current coding = Coding: 01000000 00000000
I assume from coding of Rosstech below 01000001 ???

Coding

* 00000?x: Trailer Hitch
o 0 = Trailer Hitch without Swivel Function
o 1 = Trailer Hitch with automatic Swivel Function
o 2 = Trailer Hitch with mechanical Swivel Function
* 00000x?: Country
o 1 = Rest of World (RoW)
o 2 = North America (USA/Canada)

I'm a bit concerned about the rear camera as it was working fine/no errors before i changed the Byte ...

Any ideas ???
