Our 1997 audi a4 with V6 ignition switch started acting up last thursday. The key was hard to engage and the key wouldn't spring back after starting the car -- it had to manually be pulled back. Our son drove the car on friday this way and on Nissan Consult III Plus night we called audi and they said the switch was covered under warranty. On saturday a quick trip to the store and then the car wouldn't start. The car was towed to the dealer who now says the starter is also bad. Audi said if the dealer can prove the starter was damaged by the ignition switch -- the starter would also be covered. The dealer says he can't prove it but that it is possible. Is there a way to show the audi rep the switch caused the starter issue -- ie., anything they can look at in the starter? We find it hard to believe that the starter failed so close to the ignition switch failure.
