So my '00 TT quattro with the typical 6sp manual, all stock, apparently had a clutch failure : the springs on clutchplate/flywheel gave. Normal , I suppose. But what was discovered happened whe the box was taken off and opened up, is that the loose spring apparently ran round a bit, and bore a hole into the gearbox wall about the size of a plum! bits of metal were found in the gear oil.
My question: is this a known problem? Im not a mech, but it does not seem normal that a gearbox hole is consequence of a straightforward clutch spring failure.
My shop says the recommended fix is to replace the entire box.
