Hi, I have an 87 5000s with the 2.3L engine. For the past couple of months my igniton has had a delay between the time I turn the key and the time it engages.

The time has varied: 1-3 seconds. Now, the ignition will not engage.

So, considering the delay, what would be your first idea as to the problem?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

I have a similar problem, would not start when turning the key, no power, lights etc, had they ignition switch etc changed, still same problem, have found if I grab the gear stick, (is auto) push down on it slightly and push it forward the car will start, apparantly its something to do with the gears not engaging (had diff replaced) sometimes I have to put it in neutral and do the same thing, wiggling the gear leaver while turning the key, always starts the car, otherwise, it just seems dead. cheers Trish
