haldex is found on the TT, the VW R32 and passat... essentially, these are front wheel drive cars until torque is needed in the rear, then the computer system sends power back there. Quattro, on the other hand, is 80/20 front/rear unless more is needed.

Thanks Andy for that. To go off a little from the noise issue that graylea started, I assume by TT you mean only the Quattro version and not the standard 2WD.

yeah.. the "quattro" TTs are the ones with the haldex system.. technically they're not even quattro as they use different systems as the true quattro systems found in the A4/A6/A8s... not to say that either system is better .. just different

my EPS light has come on, Audi tell me its the Haldex control unit which need replacing at a cost of aprox £800.00. Anyway, my car makes a clunking noise when turning on full lock. this may or may not be linked to the haldex problem, does anyone know for sure?, Rich.
