Hey guys! My 88 Audi 90 quattro is giving me real headaches. The car now starts sometimes but will not start after you shut it off. I've replaced many parts so far including the fuel pump & filter, fuel regulator, cold start valve,distributor,coil w/ amplifier, wires, plugs, alternator, battery& knock sensor. I was told that the problem is probably being caused by a bad crank sensor. It is showing all the signs of a bad crank sensor but it seems that an 88 10 valve NG engine doesn't have a crank sensor in it, an 88 20 valve does but an 88 10 valve does not.Now I'm completely stumped and stranded. There has got to be somebody out there who can help me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm losing my mind on this!!

BMW guy here,after u start - does it get hot how long run time till no start ?
if a no start are plugs wet ? ='s fuel
getting spark ?
on a BMW - id ck the dme - ECU for u, bad solder joints ? heat will crack joints, even a worn key sw - or poor main relay, also ck connection @ starter on start valve.
will starting fluid make it run - ish ?

Length of time running has no bearing on start up again. If it runs 5 min or a few hours it wont start if you shut it off or stalls, If I get it to start I have to keep the revs up for a while before it will idle. Sometimes it takes days sitting before it will start up again.

are spark plugs wet - when no start ? or (hook up a plug) no spark ?
i need to know - hard to fix over the phone - understand ?
will quick start (either ) made it kick ? almost start ?
i have to know if its elec or fuel - for reason of no start ! when warm
but it always starts when cold ?

I had a similar intermittant non start problem which finally became a permanent non start problem. Mine related to no spark. I finally changed out the camshaft sensor and all has been good now for 2 weeks. Hope this helps - please get back with your final resolution.
