Hello!

i searched the audio tech and the A4 forums for "iPod" but only found one post.

so i offer this:
what are my options to hard-wire a connection for an iPod in a 2000 A4?

ideal solution is to have one cable/plug that charges the iPod battery and lets music flow from iPod to the head unit [factory Bose]. i understand that the connection on the bottom of the iPod can do this, but how do i hook that up to the head unit?

i don't want to lose the ability to use the CD changer.
an FM transmitter won't work due to interference.
plugging into the cig lighter for power is undesirable.

you have to lose the external CDC if you want to interface w/ the factory head unit. I've installed ipods in both my Jetta and my allroad - its very easy, however the inferface adapter plugs into the CDC plug on the back of the head unit. People have made switches to switch between CDC and ipod, but theres a fair amount of work involved.

to be perfectly honest - i have a 6CDC built into my head unit in the allroad. Since i've had my ipod in the car i've put a CD in the player maybe one time. (assuming you've got all your CDs on your ipod)

Its called ICE LINK and its marketed by Dennison.
Ice-Link

This will allow you to use your steering wheel button to change the tracks.
The Ic-Link will also allow your head unit to read and display the track on the head unit. But you have to use the external CD hookups to do this.
The Ice-link 'fools' your head unit into thinking the i-pod is a CD Changer

Hi bhb399mm,

I have bought a Dennison Ice> Link, but unfortunately I am not having any lock configuring the unit. My car is an Audi TT with “Concert” sounds. I have connected the link, the first configuration display comes up in ipod “Please visit http://install..... “. Then play the MP3 (stat paying the mp3 and doc the ipod), I get the “….please turn off the ignition…“ in my ipod. at first all seems ok , but I am unable to select the ipod when I select the Menu button in my (Concert) head unit (to select the CD) he button does not gets activated . I was wondering what is your cars head unit and did you have any difficulties configuring?

I visited the Dennison website and they claim that the Ice-Link adapter is not compatible with the XM module.

I have a 2004 A4 with the Bose system, 6 cd changer in dash, and XM, which I do not use.

Does anybody know if the XM module plugs in the same way as a CD changer? I do not have a CD changer option since it is in the dashm but I would not mind sacrificing the XM for the ability to control an iPod.

99% sure the XM plugs into the CDC harness on the head unit... i'd check with the dealer.. see what they have to say
