Polish is *usually the first chemical used in a multi step process, unless the paint is real bad compounding/wet sanding will be done first. Polish removes the top layer of paint/clear coat with abbrasives to make it shine. Glaze fills in any micro scratches left from polishing, also brings depth/wet look to paint. Neither polish or glaze protects paint. Real wax does very little to the shine because the focus is on paint protection. Wax is old school, even the best only last for a month or so. Paint sealant on the other hand can protect up to a year, some companies claim years that's all BS! Sealant also does't produce a shine. Machine(high speed) polishing should only be done 1-2 times per year, doing it by hand or orbital buffer is ok every month if you'd like. :p
