Check Engine Light Keeps Coming On After Dealershi

Does your dealer have a VAG fault code reader?Ask to see the readout so you know exactly what the problem is.If they dont have one,go to a dealer that does!
If the O2 sensor is faulty,replacing vac lines wont help! The O2 sensor has a heater element in it,this may be O/C,or the sensor itself may have failed.Anyway,reading the failt codes should show what the problem is.

i have an aappointment with the dealer for Tue. Thanks for the reply. i will ask them about the VAG Fault Code reader.

problem solved...cracked air canister....thank you, urq20v.

Forgot to mention the car is a 03 RS6.....the C/E light came back on and the car is back to the dealer....dealer: replace vac lines(crack), changed the air canister(crack), but still getting the c/e light. dealer is still wondering what the problem could be and decided to call a master tech....no dice. any thoughts? the other forums are for kids and smart ass remarks i can live w/out...

Sorry - I have no solution, but the same problem with my 1998 A4. O2 sensors have all been replaced, but the light still comes on. Anyone have suggestions before I fork over more$$?

Does it come on and stay on,or is it intermittant?Could possibly be bad fuel!Do you always fill up at the same gas station?

URQ20V makes a good point. I've had many problems with this warning light on my A4. If the car is running fine but the lite stays on, make sure you are running the highest octane you can get. I found in the past that my check engine light would come on if I used a lower octane. It did however reset itself within a few days after running the higher octane. If it stays on, it may indicate another type of problem.

I have a 2001 audi a6 4.2, same problem with engine light i was given every thing underthe sun to try, like better gas, not fill the tank to the top,not letting the engine idle,replace a ir filter more often.replace o2 censor, and yes when the warranty was over by 600km's 375miles it was remarkable how the audi tecks then found that the head gastket was leaking under pressure, the coolant mixed with the exhaust and messed up the 02 censor, and your right you guessed it I paid the $5,500.00 to get it fixed and it's fine now, hope you have better luck than I did. need less to say I'm not happy with Audi and I'm trading mine for an American made car.

Very, very sorry to hear your story. This won't help now but the smartest thing I ever did was take my car to an independent Porsche/Audi mechanic 4 months before it came off warranty and paid him $150 to check everything on the car. He identified several things (including a slight oil leak). I took his report to Audi and told them to fix EVERYTHING on the list. They did alot of work including replacing some of the engine gaskets. Lesson is, don't rely on the Audi dealer to look for these things.
Saved me a fortune.
As an aside, I'm pretty shocked that Audi would not pay for your repairs given the mileage and the fact the problem (engine lite) had been brought to their attention prior to the expiry of the warranty but had remained unsolved.

Before the warranty ran out I had all kinds of repairs made but nothing solved the problem. The car is running just fine so I have given up trying to locate the problem. Did you have any performance issues when your light was on?

No. The car ran fine. It just got annoying watching that c/e light. I had a dealer check it one time and the vag code came back saying the ECU had detected a misfire. The dealer asked me if I noticed when the light came on (at start up or while the engine was running). Apparently this misfire code is pretty common if the light comes on at start up.
