The reverse lights are no longer working on my wife's 1995 A6 Quattro. They used to come intermittently, now not at all.

I think the switch may be vacuum activated when you shift into reverse. Can any one confirm or deny this?

And, where is the darned thing located so it can be replaced.

Thanks!

Here is a little more info --
The car has an automatic transmission.

The back-up lights will come on when the car is in reverse without the engine running.

The back-up lights will not come on when the engine is running.

It sounds almost like a loose connection or something, the switch is positioned behind the gearbox, not sure which one, but it MUST be one of them

Thanks Corne;
I think that it is around the gearbox in a standard shift. My Bently repair manual shows the reverse light switch as being up around the firewall in an automatic.

But, the manual is not very clear and there are several things there!
