Auto Headlight Rain Error Light ?

So I got this warning on the dash when the headlight switch is in the auto position on the car that I bought. Low beams are on always when I start the car, but dash lights are not on like they would be if the lights came on due to low light.

Is this indicative of the light sensor on the dash being bad ? I’m a bit confused because I know that there is a rain sensor that it could be tied with but truly I don’t know if the car came with automatic rain sensing wipers ......not sure how to check for that. I took the rear view mirror off and I didn’t see the typical white gel pad that I was expecting to see (maybe it’s missing) but who knows with the previous owner .......

I can say that it doesn’t seem like auto wipers work in the rain; meaning that the wiping sequence speeds up with heavier rain and/or speed ......


So not sure if I have 2 problems or just one with the light sensor on the dash

Any tips from the Audi OG’s on this forum ?
