Hi to all

My Fuel gauge is either full or empty with the constant reminder noise that I need to refuel when it is showing empty.

The display intermittently fails.

The Rev counter and temp gauge intermittently go to zero.

Audi state I need a new instrument cluster, which at £700 seems a hike for dodgy fuel gauge.

I have already replaced both the fuel sender units.

Any ideas? Is this a common problem?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Look for a connection problem first. Get the cluster out, on its back there are two connectors that have a locking mechanism. Maybe they are loose. Disconnect and reconnect them and make sure they are firmly locked.

Second, if the above does not help, check the faults with a vag-com. They may indicate where to look further.

If you disconnect the instrument panel, do you have to do something to reprogram it to work again -- some kind of codes?
