I need to find out the number for my steering rack but my local audi dealer told me it costs £533 for the part but won't tell me the number.
I asked why not and he said " you'll go elsewhere to buy it"
I Replied that he is obviously ripping me off and he said he can only tell me how much it costs
my car is a 1999 audi 1.8t quattro sport
can anyone help me please

The No. must be stamped on it some where probably impossible to find it though.
Try a VW garage or an indiependent Audi/Vw parts shop/garage just not the main dealer if your trying to save money.

Why don't you go to a auto factors. Should be able to get it at less than half the price.
