Lads,

I am in the process of changing the timing belt,

On the Cam pulley there are two marks 1. a dot 2. T O.

On the Plastic cover there is a T O arrow.

On the crank pulley there is a line, which lines up with an arrow on the bottom cover at this point the cylinder 1 is at TDC.

Can somebody please tell me where the Cam pulley should be when cylinder 1 is at TDC.

The haynes manual is crap!

The Car is a 1994 Audi 80 2.0L E (Petrol)

Thanks Lads

HELLO---IM NEW HERE TOO and am having the same probs as you mate i have a 16 v coupe with an ACE engine i lined up the camshaft sprocket on the arrow and the made marks on the crankshaftpulley and and intermediate shaft sprocket-- slipped of the old pulley belt which was in considerable good condition for a 70,000 miles belt-- i replaced belt and tensioner all to the haynes manual instructions all the timing marks lined up lovely the tensioner was functioning correctly and tickover was smooth -- but problem is the engine doesnt want to pull seems gutless-- have i got to reset the ignition timing by tweaking the distributor using the timing marks on the flywheel and a strobe light???????

hello back again and all is sorted -- it seems that the belt must have slipped a tooth when i tensioned it!!! didnt have to touch the ignition timing at all-- its back to pulling like a train!!!

Tommy what engine do you have ?????is it ACE or ADR ----when the no1 piston is at TDC the crank pulley should line up with the arrow on the timing cover then the camshaft pulley will line up with the arrow on the rear timing belt cover at the top of the engine
