The clutch in my Audi 80 has started to slip. All seems fine in first and second gear but slips badly in fourth and fifth gears. Is there any i can check before taking the whole thing apart e.g hydaulic fluid level, slave cylinder. cheers we3rt6
I'm afraid that once the clutch starts to slip it is usually due to trouble with the plate, the flywheel or the clutch housing. Slippage can be due to wear or, probably just as commonly, contamination. The normal cause of contamination is a failing crankshaft oil seal, make sure you have one to hand when you hoik out the engine.
Trouble with the hydraulics usually leads to the clutch not disengaging properly rather than slipping.
