My temp sensor reads accurately at times, but extremely wrong at others.

For example (set to celcius - Canadian car), I will get into the car on a hot day, and it will say negative 50 degree celcius, and constantly show temps below freezing, even on a hot day.

Is this sensor easily replaced, and do they fail often?

Also, is this the same sensor the car's climate control system uses to determine whether to actuate the compressor or not?

I find when the temps shows cold even though it's hot, the A/C won't run and blow cold air. I'm almost positive the two issues are related.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
