Hi...
I have an A6 2.4v6 on around 75,000 miles and the Airbag warning light came on about two weeks ago. Took it into local Audi dealer and they said the Airbag Control Module needed replacing at a cost of £528 (which includes 2 hours labour!).
After trawling the web for a few days I decided to try and source a salvaged part. I got the part number from another Garage who also checked the system using VAG-COM which also confirmed that the unit was reporting a 'memory module fault'.
I am wondering if anyone else has had any success using a salvaged Airbag ECU? My concern is that I've heard that the software renders the unit unusable if the seatbelt tensioners or one of the Airbags has gone off in the original vehicle. I've also heard that some units allow up to two resets. I have sourced a unit from a Category B salvage - i'm not able to find out whether the bags went off or not, but being a Cat B car, it is quite likely.
Any advise would be very much appreciated - I'm just trying to decide whether it's best to swallow the price of the new part or try the second-hand part first.
