Ha!
I had the same problem for a couple of months. My Audi specialist had it diagnosed at £1200 and they also reccommended bba reman. I was still gutted.
Last month I noticed one of my 30amp engine fuses was burnt out (the ones on top of the battery), and I mean seriously charred! I replaced the fuse for 50p and my abs light went out! I was very pleased as you can expect.
I've been driving it since (about 4 weeks) and it's still fine.
