Hi all:
Has anyone had the ABS warning light come on with a blinking brake light? I have a 1998 A4 2.8 liter engine which for the last two weeks has had the ABS light come on at different times, the brake light then blinks, and they both stay on, go out, etc. with intermittent showing.

Audi suggests that it could be one of two things: First (cheapest), an instrument failure (I also have a temperature gauge that sometimes works or doesn't work) or second, an actual failure of the ABS system which needs replacement.

Anyone have this experience or any suggestions??? Thanks in advance

Recently i had a similar problem and it turned out to be the brake shoe wear indicator cables located under the wheel arches, sometimes they come loose and rub on the tyres, if they wear through the indicator lamp on the dash illuminates

hope this helps

My man, It sounds like the vehicle has a short circuit.
You mentioned that you temp gauge works then does'nt.
As appose to the ABS braking system.

Merely an opinion
Nevertheless hope this gives you some idea.

Cheers

My '96 2.6 Quattro had the same problem and it turned out to be the ABS unit. You can't get a 2nd hand one or have it reco'd coz it's a safety unit. And you wouldnt want a dodgy part locking up your wheels at 110k.

The part was pretty expensive ($2200 AUD) so i hope it's not that for your sake, but Audi will diagnose it pretty fast.
