Hi, I'm a newbie here so I hope others more experienced will follow up on this response, but in general the A8 is just the safest car there is on the road. The original 4.2Q weighing around 3900 lbs has as much crash protection for all intents and purposes as steel bodied cars weighing twice as much - and good luck finding a production vehicle weighing almost 4 tons, besides a Ford Excursion with a diesel engine.
In a collision much of the energy is absorbed in accordion-like fashion so that less of it gets transmitted to the centre where the occupants are.
I'll look forward to what others have to contribute here.
