Hello everyone, I'm a newbie not only to this forum but also the A8 model, sorry for confusion here. I'm wondering how many miles or kilometers your A8s have gone without undue problems. My car has 141,000 km or about 88,125 miles, yet it sounds like it has hardly even been broken in.

thanks
Ray

no worries my friend... the 4.2 V8 will run to 175,000miles/ 281,635km with normal maintance. just make sure you get the oil changed reguraly and have it services on the dealer's schedule posted in your manual.

Hello Brad and thank you for your prompt reply to this enquiry. Based on what you said, the engine's about half-way through its life expectancy, and that's very encouraging. I've noticed elsewhere comments and warnings about getting the timing belt replaced by 90,000 miles, and hopefully that's the only major thing required. The car has a new transmission.

Oddly enough, most people who come here have almost never seen one of these cars except in magazines. Without exception, they admire the overall design, inside and out too.

By the way the VIN ends in 000689 - it appears to be one the first for the '97 year, and incidentally was one of the first 15 A8s to reach the west coast of Canada.

many thanks again,
Ray

this is a must. make sure you take it to a dealer
I will see to it that this procedure is done. I've heard it's expensive, what has been your experience with this service?

Incidentally I would also welcome some commentary on the other topics in which I have recently posted.

thanks,
Ray
