The brakes on my Quattro 2.8 auto have never been great in terms of brake sponginess but the pedal traveI has now become a little excessive.

I took it in to be looked at and the garage changed the rear calipers, changed the fluid, tested the brakes and pronounced them OK.

Unfortunately the travel is even greater now though the car does stop with enough pressure

Even with the engine off there is quite some movement but with additional travel/ sponginess with the engine on.

Possible answers could be:

- Still air in the system from e.g. leaky nipples
- Worn/contaminated master cyclinder

The travel when engine is off could however indicate another problem as I recall from the past another pressure sensor (?) may affect this if faulty.

Does anyone have any ideas please ?
