Not under warranty? What year is your car?

Hi Lads/Ladettes,
I have recently got the Audi, ( main car a SAAB). took it in for a service whacking great £520. They now tell me I need to spend another £480 as I have a throttle problem, they won't describe exactly what they are going to do for this sum (ransom). the problem is that sometimes on start up the engine stalls. took it to a private garage, but they said that they could not program it ???. any ideas or help

No the warranty has run out, it is a 1997
