Hi,

I have a 1999 A3 1.8T. In the last couple of days, I've been hearing an intermittent squeaky belt sound. I've had a look at it today and it is the cambelt. Problem is, it appears that the pulley wheel attached to the camshaft is wobbling. This pushes the cam belt half off the wheel, causing it to rub on the outer casing and causing the nasty horrible squeaky sound.

I'll be taking it to my friendly garage ASAP (typically it would happen on a Bank Holiday Weekend!) and not driving it until then.

Has anybody had this problem before and knows how much it is likely to cost me?

Cheers.
