My A6 2.8L has been difficult to impossible to start (cranks but won't fire), and has also been cutting out on me sporadically. I've had it in to two different Audi shops. One told me I needed spark plugs, which I replaced myself, with no improvement.

The other replaced the ignition switch, which so far (just got it back last night) has seemed to help the starting, but it still cuts out momentarily, then catches again.
I was told I am having brownouts in the 15 circuit to the ignition module.

Any ideas?

have these garages ran VAG-COM diagnostics on your car? the vagcom would tell them exactly where the problem is.
They have hooked it up to the computer, but no fault codes show up.

When I drove it last Thursday, I finally got a "check engine" light. That's the first that has come on. I didn't drive it any further except to take it back to the shop on Monday morning. Hopefully a code will show up now that helps pin point the problem.
