Hi, I have just bought a 1999 a6/s6 advant 4.2 quattro. The car has been seriously neglected (no service history, electric mirrors broken and passenger mirrow held in place with carpet tape, button/paddle to access satnav etc has been snapped off and the doozer .......... dashboard well out!! ie: reading 20mph slower than actual speed and revs out by 600rpm!!). You may now be asking why would I buy such a poor example?? well, for £6k and 68000 showing on the clock and a bookers list price of 11k, wouldnt you?? hmmmmmmmmmmm maybe not hahaha ;-) Well, started to get some work done on the car, to start off, iots had a full service and cambelt change. I have arranged for the dashboard componants to be recalibrated and to be fair, the exterior and interior is in very good condition (no stonechips or scratches on the outside and the dark blue leather is in a 8/10 condition (although, the would trim is bloody terrable - not marked or damaged, just awful and cheap!!). The next jobs on my list was to change the brakes on the front (17" wheels) as they were shot. Took the car to a mate who has his own mechanics garage for the work to be carried out - driver side disc seemed fine but pad shot - no scoring on disc so just needs replacement pad - easy - however, as these things are done in pairs I thought I would check the passenger side before ordering from audi. Hmmmmmmmmmm, pads completely worn out and gone!! disc had a 2mm crack running the full length! So, called 'black diamond' - gave them the chasis number and they said they had a set of pads n disks in (drilled and powder coated for £288 + vat) - ordered ;-) When they arrived though, I couldnt believe how small the pads were (like 1.4 escort!!) and the discs didnt fit!! Now, I know f*@k alkl about cars - I know how to drive, and drive fast (held a licence for 17 years and no accidents/claims and im a turbo head by heart!) but my mate explained, that I needed an offset of 57mm while the discs had a 42mm offset - so they are no use! got back intouch with black diamond and explained that they had sent the wrong products - they were addament they hadnt and told me to contact audi to get a definative answer - i did! Audi didnt want to know, all they said was that there was ONE type of disc available for my car and thats the same as I had previously recieved from black diamond! Long story short, I have now returned the discs and pads to black diamond, costing me an additional £16 in couriorage and 10% handling charge from bd - meaning I am now £50+ out of pocket and no wiser to getting my car on the road! My mate seems to think that the car has had a different brake setup installed but is completely in the dark as to what and where and from whom!! Has anybody else experienced this?? does anybody else know where to get cheap discs that have a 57mm offset?? (i would like to point out, this means bugger all 2 me!! hahaha) can anybody help?? PLEASE?? hahaha Also, on a seperate note, does anybody know whether the 1999 4.2 a6 can be made to look newer? ie: changing the fron bumper and grill for the new a6/rs6?? cricky, I have written war and peace lol Jason/sulu ;-)
