I am in the market for a B5 S4. I own an entire aftermarket stereo that I plan on installing into this car (everything will be replaced). What things do I need to be aware of when replacing the factory Bose head unit? Does the head unit control other features "behind the scenes"? Will I need to relocated he head unit somewhere else? Finally, what kind of harnesses/installation kits are available for a 2002 S4 with Bose radio?

Any help is appreciated.

If you replace the std h/u you will loose the integration into the DIS. This is where radio details are displayed in the screen area under the tach/speedo. Only other down side is that you loose the intgrated look that the std h/u has.

Note, the std unit is not a std size single din unit. So you will need an install kit for your new h/u or have one made.

A harness is not necessary if you plan to rewire the entire new system.
