2002 A4 3.0 Duplicate Remote & Key

Hello Folks,

My local auction has 2002 A4 3.0 on auction this comming Friday. The car does not have the keys, so could not check if the engine will run. It needs some decent amount of work. The car has not been driven for about 1 year or so and has been sitting in a storage yard. The driver was invloved in DWI and the rear portion caught fire being parked in a high grassy area. My question to you is how is easy to get the duplicate key / remote made with the Vin Number? I understand the key/remote has a transponder on it and will require programming.

Any other ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

not hard... it'll cost you ~$80 a key. call your dealer and see what they need. come need proof of ownership some dont

just curious.. how much are you paying for this car?
bhb399mm, I paid $4000 but it will take in my guess another $5000 to get to prime condition, since it had fire damage in the rear. The actual damage is more than I was thinking initially. I am trying to find a front collision damage so I can use the rear for parts.

Going back to the key/remote issuse, I understand, that key will come pre-cut from Germany but the remote needs to be programmed at the dealer and I need to get the car to the dealer for programming. Is this correct?

Also, will just the key (no remote) will turn on the ignition? I need to roll up one window and see the mileage. The car will have to wait maybe 1-3 months depending on when can I get the parts before taking it to the dealer.

Thanks for all the help.

yes... however that key still needs to be set up to work with your car. audis have impobilizers ... all the keys (including the non-remote valet key) have information in them to alow the engine to start.
Well, all I want to do at this point is just order the blade key alone and hook the battery to get the driver side window up and check on the mileage. The blade key will be just like a blade I think, I will have to hold it by hand to get to Postion 1, I think.

Thanks again, I am learning each day on this project I have taken. I have a friend who is helping me but he had not worked on any Audi A4 before.
good luck, looks like you'll get a good deal when all is said and done. keep us posted
Hi,

New guy here stumbled on bad luck yesterday. My other car was stolen and I left my 2002 Audi A4 key in the glove compartment. Because the theft has my address, I am afraid he could start the car up with the key. Is there a way to re-program the code entirely so the original is no longer valid? I'm hoping this is not too costly.

Thank you very much in advance for your help and guidance on how to best solve this.

Tom
i'd go to the dealer and see what they have to say, i'm sure it can be done but you'd not only have to have the keys reprogramed, but all the locks on the car changed as well.. in the meantime.. i would suggest putting a club or some other anti-theft device on the car until you have this all worked out
