Hello:

My Bose system seems to be failing on my '97 A6. The Cd changer works sporadically, and I am now losing reception on both AM and FM. I like the clean look of the factory unit, but would also like to be able to link an Ipod to the system. Any thougths on replacing the factory unit vs. an aftermarket system?

Thanks...

you've come to the right place! i've done ipod installs on several cars.

some things you'll need to consider:

1) the stock head unit doesnt have an aux. input that you need to hook up your ipod. a few companies make adapters, but i'm not sure about a 97 car.

2) alpine just came out with a new head unit/ipod interface that is awesome. it alows you to control the ipod thru your stereo (others dont) - downside, it'll probably cost you $300 for it

3) you can do a standard install (no control from head unit) for around $160 (new head unit, adapters, ect)

4) with any type of install (even #1) you'll lose your external cd changer alltogether. I havent found that to be a problem when you have your ipod with 40,000 soungs in your car :D
