Angry READ: A3 Transmission Problems - Skipping gears, Clunking noise, Hesitating

Hello Everyone.. I just want to make you all aware of potential transmission issue. My car would skip gears, hesitate when accelerating, and generate a clunking noise whenever I come to a stop. At first, I didn't think it was an issue, but when I brought it to the dealership, they confirmed my worst fears - it was a transmission problem.

If you have a similar issue, GO TO THE NEAREST AUDI Dealership and report it. POST IT HERE TOO. We should start tracking users who have this issue. Call Audi of North America and let them know. In my case, it's a faulty mechatronic control unit. My A3 is a 2008 with less than 10K miles.

I read on another forum that Audi Dealerships across the US are on the look-out for these type of faulty transmissions.

I will never purchase an Audi again. Faulty Mechatronic (TCU) in DSG - AudiForums.com

Audi Recalls A3 with bad transmission

I knew I wasn't crazy. If you have an A3, you better get it checked it out.
My TSU was replaced and it drives better. I hope the bad TSU didn't cause additional damages.

I did notice intermittent sluggish change out on my DSG, a couple of times it would not go into gear for a while. I will take it in and will update on the results.

2008 Audi A3

We have had the same issues with our transmission. We have had it in three times and it wasn't until we search on the Internet to find that they were having known transmission issues. It is unknown as to why the dealership didn't inform us. Has anyone else had issues with the dealer not telling them about this problem? Could they really not have known?

I just purchased a used A3 with 30,000 miles on it and I notice that the transmission seems jerky in slower traffic on the freeway, say under 25mph or less. Is this similar to the issue that others have experienced with faulty transmissions? I have the car in for some minor service and have asked my dealer rep. to verify that the recall work was performed on this vehicle. But other than taking their word for it, how can I check to be sure that the recall was in fact performed on this car?

Thanks -
Tim M.

Ok I talked to someone at Audi of America about the transmission problem. Apparently there is another service bulletin about to be issued, called the J-8 bulletin, I believe that was what he called it. They were able to look up my VIN and tell me that my car - an '08 A3 2.0T with DSG - would be involved in the recall. The guy at AoA claims that they have not issued the bulletin yet because they have not managed to accumulate enough spare transmission modules at all the dealerships yet. My problem appears to be mainly between 1st and 2nd gears as the car stops and starts in rush-hour traffic. Meanwhile I drove a 2007 mini over the weekend, just for comparison, and noticed no such lurching in that transmission.

Transmission

We just got our Audi A3 back a few days ago. We have driven over 100 miles after they installed the new computer module. The transmission - so far - is working flawlessly!

I have a similar problem with my DSG transmission, I have no strange noises, but it seems like the gears do not engaged for less than a second, coming and going. I am sure the engine revs up if I press the gas, with no power to the wheels. My car has 20,000 miles and it started with this problem two months ago. I leave in a small town at it seem like it does this to me only when in highway, for now.
Well lets hope AUDI responds quickly to this dangerous issue.

We have now put about 1000 miles on the car since we had transmission problems. We have had two problems but they only occurred when the engine and transmission was cold.
