Buying, have a question.

Im buying an 87 CGT. Needs a little work, no rust on it though, which is VERY rare for around here. The lifters are pretty loud on the car though, I have read they were all like this until they warmed up, is that true? Also, it doesnt have a digital dash, like all 87's did (or so I read). So is it actually an 87 or?
Also, what size rims does this car use?

Any help would be awesome, Thanks.

only 87.5's had digi dash. the 87.5 was a "special build" and also had upgrades like the 2.3L 10v motor with more power as well as 5 lug / all wheel disc brakes... its very hard to find special builds..

edit - your car uses 4x108 14" wheels buddy

Its really weird that this happened today.

We didnt end up getting the car, as my dad had gotten injured and was out of work for a month and a few weeks.

While out for a drive today we decided to stop by to see if the car was still for sale and it was. I just recently sold my sled so I now have some money.

We called the guy today and im going to look at it again tomorrow, and probably buy it.

I got home, checked my email, and i had gotten a response in this. Hahaha

WEIRD.

Really wierd since you posted first in april and i respond 6 months later haha! and not to mention its the same day that you decide to go give it a second look

my 10v has been ticking since the day i got it.. its been such a nuisance and a personal quest of mine to rid this motor of valve tick before i swap it! i usually use "BG MOA" which is dealer only or you can use lucas. i have had some good luck with lucas..

ill do an oil change and run 4qts of good oil, and 1qt of lucas. synthetic or regular oil it dont matter.. i used 5w20 syn, 10w30 syn, 10w40 reg, and now im running 20w50 vr1 conventional for the warm weather and it runs quiet but only for a few weeks/1000 miles, down the line and its ticking again. any weight / viscosity oil is fine. my friend with a 10v turbo run 0w30 in the winter so really its up to you. i just wouldn't recommend 20w50 in the cold months haha. i realized that its just consuming oil so as soon as i hear it start to tick ill add about a half qt and take it for a run, its usually quiet after that.

just be careful of overfilling. these cars are pretty tolerant but you will know when its too full.. you will hear the connecting rods start to 'float' and tap around inside the bottom end..

WELL, I bought it. My first car. Haha, Needs some work, nothing that cant be done though.

Needs:
Brake lines
Windshield motor installed
possibly fuel lines
plus general stuff when buying a car

Recent work(recent ish):
new rear brakes
new wiper motor
new front pads
new exhaust

After the top list is done im getting a sound system, paint, then rims. As for oil, im just going to go with whatever my dad suggests (mechanic for 35+ years). The car isn't going to be run in the winter either. There is no rust on the car, and Im going to try to keep it that way. So im going to undercoat it, then park it till spring. At least thats the plan.
