I picked up my new A3 a couple of days ago (replacing my previous A3). The Parking Assistant is really impressive. However, I have one nagging doubt. If I'm parking on the left hand side of the road, it scans that side and decides whether the gap is large enough. Alternatively, I can get it to scan the right hand side - it has sensors both ways.

Say I'm parking on the left. I live in a fairly narrow cul-de-sac. It will work out whether there is enough room on the left and, if so, will do all the turns.

Does anyone know if it also scans on the right, to make sure that, when reversing in and turning, there is enough room not to hit a car on the right hand side of the road?

Thanks in anticipation.

Ny 'parking assistant' I mean the parallel parking assistant. Switch it on, drive until it senses a gap and then it does all the wheel turning to steer into that gap.

Has anyone an idea as to whether is "senses" on both sides, to avoid bumps in a narrow road?
